"Here in Highland, NY, our Town is building the Bob Shepard Highland Landing Park along the Hudson River, the only public access to the river for 30 miles along the west shore.  We’ve been lucky to have Dave Toder as part of our design team.  He drew up plans first for the renovation of an onsite building and then for our shoreline restoration.  This project includes new bulkheads, a deepwater dock, and a boat launch ramp, all to be freely available for public use.  Dave has worked tirelessly to translate the dreams of our Park Association onto paper and then incorporate the requirements of our funders and the recommendations of the engineers who created the package we have just put out to bid en route to making our expectations a reality.  Throughout, Dave has respected our cost limitations and produced timely, superior products."- Donna Deeprose, Vice-President of Development, Highland Landing Park Association, Highland, NY

"We were looking for an architect who had knowledge of super-insulated, energy-efficient, net-zero energy house design.  We not only found Dave to be very knowledgeable in this area, but he also was a pleasure to work with in the whole design process.  Specifically, we needed an addition that would accommodate a rooftop solar array, at the proper angle, and tie in to the existing house seamlessly.  Dave's design was better than we envisioned: beautiful, functional, super energy-efficient... not just for the addition, but for the whole re-designed house.  We highly recommend Dave, and would gladly hire him again."- Bob and Wendy, Gardiner, NY

Bolder Architecture was presented to us with fine recommendations for design in zero-net energy home applications; we could not have been more pleased with the results in working with Dave Toder for our zero-net energy home design.  Mr. Toder's patience and understanding with our specific criteria, coupled with his excellent insight and recommendations for improvement, made the design and building experience an absolute pleasure.  Dave listened intently and provided multiple solutions for our project to give us room to explore our ideas.  We chose Dave for his expertise, fairness, and flexibility.  We felt very comfortable during the whole design process and we'll be using Bolder Architecture for the design of our next accessory building and apartment.  Thanks for all the great work Dave.- Jeff & Alyce, Gardiner, NY
"I can say without hesitation that if it were not for Dave Toder's fantastic demeanor, endless patience and his uncanny ability to anticipate my needs, I would not have chosen to take on the challenge of building a home.  He was amazingly responsive--cranking out major revisions overnight--and very reasonably priced.  Critical to my desire to achieve net zero energy, he also understood how to tackle the challenges of energy efficient features without compromising aesthetic design.  My bottom line: you can't go wrong with Dave Toder...he's an A+++."- David Shepler, New Paltz, NY

"We are a couple who deeply appreciate your technical expertise, architectural design skills, constructive attitude and tact in dealing with a difficult situation.  We consider it a pleasure to provide you with the highest possible recommendations.  Our new kitchen is both safe and beautiful.  Our relationship, severely strained from dealing with an artistic and imaginative but over confident builder/designer, is still intact and stronger than ever.  It might have been otherwise if not for your ability to foster a collaborative environment.  We learned of you from walking through the zero-net energy homes that you designed while they were being built.  They highly impressed us both.  We have since met their builder and found him to also be complimentary of your ability to listen and work with his concepts and concerns.  We both mention and offer to refer you whenever we encounter people who might benefit from your services."Sincerely, S.R. & J.S., New Paltz, NY

"Our first time working with an architect could not have been a better experience.  Tearing down part of our house and rebuilding it was a daunting task.  During the planning stage, Dave gave us several options to choose from, then incorporated our ideas into a beautiful design that worked well with the existing structure.  His attention to detail in the drawings and working closely with our builder made the construction process go smoothly.  Dave Toder was a pleasure to work with and we highly recommend him to anyone in need of an architect."- B.C. and M.J., Woodstock, NY
"Working with Dave Toder was a pleasure.  We were impressed with his interpersonal style, his ability to closely listen to our ideas, his ability to incorporate important green elements into the design and his flexibility to make changes during the process.  We were so impressed with Dave's sensitivity in explaining the design process in a language easy to understand.  His thorough assessment of the property for our retirement home put us at ease.  The final design reflected everything we were dreaming for and more.  What set Dave apart from other design professionals was his ability to deliver his architectural services quickly and professionally.  Dave is a man of his word.  Dave would go out of his way to accommodate our hectic schedules and spent generous amounts of time assisting us with our design requirements.  New ideas were always welcomed by Dave who was willing to incorporate them.  We believe that Dave is brilliant at what he does and incredibly humble too."- V. & H. A.-B., Edison, NJ

"Dave Toder designed the site plan for the Black Creek Launch in Highland at the request of the Lloyd Environmental Conservation Council.  He generously contributed not only his considerable expertise as an architect but also imaginative and commonsense ideas for creating a better-looking, more environmentally sensitive, and more user-friendly boat-launch park.  In addition he demonstrated skill in accommodating a wide variety of demands from the NYS Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Conservation.  Throughout a complicated process, he was always friendly, enthusiastic, and quickly responsive to our needs.  It was for these reasons that we awarded him in 2012 for making an outstanding contribution to the Town of Lloyd."- Jack Maguire, chair, Lloyd Environmental Conservation Council

"Dave helped us work through a complicated addition to our home.  He was efficient and prompt, yet took his time to understand our needs.  He worked through a number of scenarios, adding good advice along the way.  Dave worked with the town to ensure our ideas met building codes, allowing our building permit to be granted very quickly.  Throughout the construction of our addition, Dave made himself available to the builder and us when questions came up.  His attention to detail during the construction process was extremely valuable.  Dave's professionalism was more than we expected, and I would recommend him to anyone considering a home addition or remodeling project.  And let's not forget that Dave was a real gentleman throughout the entire process.  You can't go wrong with Dave on your side."- K. & S. C., New Paltz, NY
"David,
Thanks for all that you did from the very beginning to the end of the conversion of most of our attic space into a master bedroom, bath, and smaller bedroom.  It could not have been better.  The various options that you proposed helped us to focus on what we really wanted.  Both our builder and the town building inspector praised the thoroughness of the plans, which helped to speed up the approval process.  We are more than satisfied and have already recommended you to others."With best regards, J. & M. K., Hyde Park, NY

“It has been a pleasure to work with Dave Toder of Bolder Architecture over the last few years.  Dave’s understanding of the building process, knowledge of the building code, and drawings skills were an asset in our collaborations.  I would recommend Bolder Architecture to anyone looking for competent, prompt, and reliable architectural services.”- M.L., Esopus, NY

“I have been pleased to work with Dave Toder of Bolder Architecture on a number of projects of various sizes over the last few years.  Dave Toder assembled many drawing packages and did code reviews on many different buildings for us.  With his understanding of the building process and knowledge of the building code he was an integral part of our design team.  I would recommend Bolder Architecture to anyone looking for quality, reliable and also cost effective architectural services.”- Martin, Esopus, NY

"David Toder is a great architect to work with.  I am a builder and developer who has worked with 7-10 different architects.  David is the only one I can tolerate.  He will listen and do what I ask if it is possible, and he will tell me why if it is not possible.  David will do the research to make his clients' desires become reality.  He will always defer to clients' desires over his own feelings.  If I had known David when I built my own house I would have the house I wanted.  I am a zero energy builder and when I switched architects and found David, he had never designed a zero energy house before.  David made the effort to learn everything he could from me and other sources.  David constantly searches for ways to improve himself as an architect.  I recommend David to everyone I build for since he is fair and will not blow the budget."- Anthony Aebi, Esopus, NY
"Dear David,
Just writing to let you know how grateful we are for the expertise, the patience and the ongoing support you showed us during the renovation of our kitchen, porch and deck.  Your creative sight turned a close, uncomfortable, very outdated kitchen and a closed in dining area into a spacious, open kitchen-dining area that makes entertaining convenient as well as a pleasure.  We are no longer tripping over each other as we prepare meals.
As you found in your initial inspection of our home and property, we had a porch and deck that had not been built to code, the footings were inadequate, the deck unsupported.  We now have a safe, wide, spacious deck that I'm sure we'll enjoy in the warmer weather and a porch that is comfortable, bug free as well as safe for children.
In the kitchen area, your suggestion to move the refrigerator against the inner wall and the stove to the fireplace wall, and your assurance that it would be easy to move the gas line and to vent the stove, made all the difference between a crowded work space and the lovely, open kitchen we now have.  Removing the awkward island space that broke up kitchen and dining area and expanding the cabinets to the dining area gave us a large, open space rather than a compartmentalized, closed-in one.  Your expertise regarding zoning requirements and Department of Building regulations inspired our confidence as we transitioned from design to hiring a reliable contractor to getting the necessary permits and inspections.  The completed, approved plans allowed easy sub-contractual work to get done efficiently.
Your openness to us participating in the design process and your ability to hear what we wanted and to incorporate our ideas and needs into your design made the process both exciting and fun for us.  Knowing you were our partner through this process, that we could call you at any time with questions and get a prompt informed response, gave us a sense of comfort and trust as we progressed through the project.
We are grateful to your for your professional expertise, your creative talent, your suggestions and recommendations, all provided with warmth and enthusiasm and which have resulted in a beautiful kitchen we will use and enjoy for many years.
Thank you."- Mickey and Geraldine Kelly, New Paltz, NY
"We are so delighted with the site plan you put together for us.  It is meticulously done, and you really went out of your way to get here and get it exact.  We are looking forward to collaborating on some efficiency and design renovations to the house and can’t wait to work with you."- Pat & Sheila Chira, Burlington, VT

"A year ago I built a new house in Woodstock, NY.  Bolder Architecture incorporated my computer design into their own architectural software, corrected and improved many aspects of my design, submitted the drawings to my local building department and facilitated the approval process.  Dave Toder knows New York State building code thoroughly.  He is a committed professional and a talented architect.  I could not be happier with the experience I had at Bolder."- Al Arioli, Woodstock, NY

"Dave's active listening throughout the process resulted in a design that surpassed our original expectations.  The project began as a means to increase our storage by utilizing unused height in our garage with a loft.  Through our interactive design discussions, Dave produced an innovative and economical solution which doubled our expected storage space.  More importantly, we gained an expanded mudroom for more accessible storage of all our children's stuff (jackets, book bags, sports equipment, etc.) that would normally clutter the house.  We would not have even considered the possibility of this enhanced solution had Dave not used such a personal approach to our project.  I have and would continue to highly recommended Bolder Architect to any of my friends.  Thank you."- K. & A.
